Altamont City Council To Hold Regular Meeting

The Altamont City Council will hold its regular bi-weekly meeting tonight and hold public hearings on exceeding the Revenue Neutral Rate and on the 2027 budget.

In Kansas, the RNR is calculated using the current year's assessed property values and the amount of property-tax revenue collected the previous year. The RNR is designed to keep a local government's property-tax revenue roughly the same from one year to the next, even when property values change. At tonight's meeting, council members are expected to approve a resolution to exceed the RNR with a proposed mill levy of 50.968. That rate is over 5 mills higher than for 2026. The council will then discuss the 2027 budget.

Also on the agenda is the awarding of a construction contract for the Kansas Department of Transportation, Transportation Alternatives sidewalk grant.

Tonight's meeting begins at 7pm at Altamont's City Hall. The meeting is open to the public and can also be viewed online via the City of Altamont Facebook page.
