The Independence City Commission will meet tonight and once again tackle the issue of blighted properties in the City.
At tonight's meeting, there will be 13 public hearings to consider the condemnation of properties across the City that have been deemed dangerous and unsafe. The date for a Public Hearing will also be set for an additional six properties.
Commissioners will also consider the annexation of land owned by the City located on Peter Pan Road near the Fed Ex facility. The City purchased the property in June and plans for it to become part of the Independence Industrial Park.
There will also be a presentation from John Long with the Independence Public Library for the 2027 budget and another presentation from the Montgomery County Action Council, which is expected to request the same funding as this year from the 2027 budget.
Tonight's Independence City Commission meeting will begin at 5:30 in the commission room at City Hall. The public is invited to attend in person or to view the meeting online via the City's website.
