Voters in Nowata approve a change to the city charter.
According to unofficial results from the Oklahoma State Election Board, voters approved the proposed charter change yesterday by a roughly 60% to 40% margin, with 225 “yes” votes and 148 “no” votes. In total, 373 total votes were cast from residents within the City of Nowata.
The charter change will amend the city treasurer position, allowing the city to appoint a City Treasurer with accounting experience. The City Treasurer will not serve on the Board of City Commissioners. Results will be made official on Friday.
