A bond issue to build a new gym for South Coffeyville students fails to gain support from voters.

According to the unofficial results, with 100% of the precincts reporting from Tuesday's runoff election, 51% of residents voted "no" on the issue with 242 votes cast over 225 "yes" votes. In order to pass, 60% of the votes would needed to have been in favor of the $5.9 million bond for the new facility and campus upgrades.

The school's previous two bond attempts have failed, and this election's turnout was greater than the 263 total "yes" and "no" votes cast in the last election.  For several years, leadership at South Coffeyville has expressed the need for a gym to accommodate activities as the school was originally built as a K-8 facility and now educates K-12 students.
