As temperatures rise, pond weeds and algae become more common in ponds across Southeast Kansas. While some aquatic vegetation is beneficial, excessive growth can interfere with fishing, recreation, and livestock watering.

Extension Agent Adaven Rohling says using the correct control method is the best way to manage pond weeds and keep them from becoming a bigger problem.

Landowners are encouraged to identify the type of weed before beginning treatment and to contact their local Extension office for management recommendations.
