Southeast Kansas Corn Leads State in Development

Corn development in Southeast Kansas continues to outpace the rest of the state. The latest USDA Crop Progress Report shows 100 percent of corn in the southeast district has reached the silking stage, compared to 70 percent statewide. Even more impressive, 90 percent of the crop has reached the dough stage, well ahead of the 34 percent statewide average.

Across Kansas, corn is rated 54 percent good to excellent, while soybeans are also in good shape, with 64 percent rated good to excellent. Farmers had six days suitable for fieldwork last week, although nearly 44 percent of topsoil moisture is still rated short to very short. The report reflects another week of strong crop development across Southeast Kansas.
