The City of Coffeyville will begin a system-wide flushing of the City's water system starting next Monday.
On August 3rd, the City will begin its annual free chlorine flushing program to remove chemical and biological build-up in the City's water system. As part of this process, the City will temporarily stop adding ammonia to the water treatment process on Friday and begin using free chlorine as the primary disinfectant. Residents may experience short term changes in their water including cloudy or discolored water and unusual taste or odor. Customers may also experience a reduction in water pressure.
While these effects may be unpleasant, the water will remain safe to drink and will continue to meet all K-D-H-E standards for public health and safety. The program is expected to continue through the month of August.
