The Montgomery County Commission answers citizens questions about the pay scale for county department heads.

 

At this week's meeting, commissioners were ask to justify recent increases in the salaries of several department heads in the county. A recent examination of those positions showed steep increases in pay since 2024. The County Administrator received a 10.9% increase, the Assistant County Administrator's salary increased by 26.7%, and the Emergency Management Director's pay increased by 28.7%. Commissioners stated that the increases were driven by the results a of recent wage study commission by the County in order to make salaries more competitive. Commissioner Robert Bever says many years ago, the county found itself unable to hire staff due to low pay.

 

Commission Chair Mike Cordray says one reason for an hourly increase was the possible rise in the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.

 

Bever adds that pay for salaried employees rose due to a more recent wage study.

 

As commissioners consider raising property taxes for the coming year, they have stated that most cuts will likely come from services and not from staff salaries and benefits.
