A Texas woman is dead following a head on collision on a western Kansas highway.

The accident happened just before 3pm on Thursday, July 23, about 30 miles northwest of the City of Pratt. A 2020 Jeep Cherokee driven by 34-year-old Sara Garza of Hale, Texas, was traveling eastbound on US-50 near the City of Belpre when the driver attempted to pass an eighteen-wheeler. While in the westbound lane, Garza collided head-on with a 2007 chevy Silverado driven by 17-year-old Joseph Marquez of Lewis, Kansas. That collision also caused the semi to strike Garza's vehicle.

Garza was taken to the Hays Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. Marquez was taken to the Edwards County Medical Center in Kinsley with serious injuries. The driver of the semi was uninjured.
