Kansas Department of Revenue Collects $1.8 Billion in Delinquent Taxes

The Kansas Department of Revenue announces the collection of $1.8 billion in delinquent taxes since 2019.

Kansas Department of Revenue Secretary Mark Burghart called the effort part of a plan to strengthen the integrity of the state's tax system by promoting fairness for the majority of tax payers who pay on time. Burghart went on to say that when delinquent taxes go uncollected, it places an unfair burden on compliant taxpayers. The Department of Revenue's efforts to collect delinquent taxes are about restoring balance and strengthening the state as a whole, and not about penalizing people. Revenue’s approach emphasizes voluntary compliance, early outreach, and flexible resolution options.

The funds collected since 2019 have helped support essential state priorities such as education, transportation, public safety, and health services.

KDOR encourages taxpayers who may have outstanding balances to contact the Department to explore available options for resolving their accounts.
