The Independence Fire & EMS Department and Independence Police is investigating the cause of a recent fire on South 12th Street.
On Tuesday, July 21, just before 7pm, fire crews dispatched to a report of a fire on the porch of a residence in the 400 block of South 12th Street. Upon arrivals, firefighters found a small fire at the edge of a porch and inside a decorative porch column. The fire was quickly extinguished and did not spread to the rest of the home.
The fire was determined to be suspicious in nature and is currently under investigation by Independence Police. No injuries were reported.
