Hot weather can be hard on plants. During long periods of high temperatures, plants may wilt, dry out, or stop growing because they're trying to save water.
Kenny Dodson, horticulture agent with the Wildcat Extension District, says one of the best ways to protect plants during extreme heat is to make sure they get enough water. He recommends watering plants early in the morning, adding mulch to help keep the soil moist, and checking plants often during hot weather.
Young plants and gardens may need extra water. A little extra care during the hottest days of summer can help keep your plants healthy and growing.
