Two Independence art and cultural initiatives are set to receive grants funding through the Kansas Arts Commission.

 

Independence is one of 43 Kansas communities to receive the grants that were announced this week by Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland. The William Inge Festival was awarded $10,000 through the Arts Everywhere program, which is designed for non-profits, schools, and local governments, it helps enrich communities through the arts. The Independence historical Museum and Art Center will receive just over $9,000 through the Kansas Art Commission's General Operating Support grant program to help with to standard operating costs such as staff salaries and facility maintenance. In Wilson County, the Fredonia Arts Council received a similar grant for just over $4,000.

“In Kansas, when we invest in the arts — there is a direct, positive impact on the economy of our state,” David Toland said. “The arts shape the unique character of Kansas — and these awards are a way to help communities harness the power of the arts to enrich local identity, encourage innovation and drive economic growth.”
