Kansas Governor Laura Kelly joins state legislators and the Kansas Department of Transportation in ceremonially signing into law a bill to increase safety in school and construction zones.
Kelly will attend the ceremony this morning in Topeka for the ceremonial signing of Senate Bill 366, which prohibits drivers from holding and using mobile phones in active school and construction zones. The original bill was signed into law on April 3rd and took effect on July 1st. The new law aims to improve safety for Kansas students and highway workers by banning the use of mobile devices in active school zones and active road construction zones. Drivers are still allowed to use phones for hands-free operations.
At the time she signed the original legislation into law, Kelly called the bill a concrete step to make Kansas communities safer for everyone.
