The City of Independence is working to catch up on mowing and grass maintenance at Mount Hope Cemetery.
City crews are working hard to catch up after the recent rainy weather. The City has received complaints about the height of the grass at the cemetery and around grave markers. Crews usually require a full work week to complete one full mow of the cemetery due to its size. Standing water caused by the recent rainfall has placed mowing on hold until the grounds can dry. Staffing shortages in the park department has also added to the challenge.
City officials ask for patience as work continues.
