Labette County discusses the opening of a position in the appraisers office. The opening would be for the GIS and Mapping position after the current employee left for a job in the private sector.

County Appraiser Melody Kikkert says it may save the county some money to hire a contractor instead of filling the position.  Kikkert says for a job like this it is hard to compete with the private sector who can offer double what the county is paying.

Commissioners discussed getting a contract with this former employee to do the job she was doing for the county. The conversation ended in an executive session for discussion of nonelected personnel.
