Helping Bats Stay Safe During Summer Heat

 

Hot summer temperatures can be hard on bats, especially those living in attics, barns, or other enclosed spaces. If you see a bat on the ground during the day, it may be suffering from heat stress or dehydration.

 

Wildcat Extension Agent Adaven Rohling says to avoid handling bats with your bare hands.

 

Providing a birdbath or other shallow source of fresh water can help bats and other wildlife stay hydrated during hot, dry weather. Taking a few simple steps to support wildlife can help bats stay healthy and continue providing important benefits, like controlling insect populations.
