The City of Altamont makes a change to its burn policy during the months of July and August.

 

Previously, burning was completely prohibited in the City of Altamont during the months of July and August due to hot, dry conditions. However, over the past few years, the City has received significant rainfall during those months. Mayor Richard Hayward says he thinks a change is in order.

 

Currently, Altamont residents who wish to burn during other months must get a permit from the City. Council member Lyle Sykes says, that wouldn’t change.

 

Council members approved changing the City ordinance to allow burning in July and August on a case-by-case basis with the approval of the Altamont Fire Chief.
