Parsons Police Announce Change to Social Media Policy

The Parsons Police Department announces a change to its policy of allowing comments on social media posts announcing the arrest of suspects.

A recent discussion at a meeting of the Parsons Public Safety Advisory Board resulted in the Department adopting a trial policy to turn off comments on Facebook posts involving press releases that include booking photos. The change comes following the posting of inappropriate, shaming, and threatening comments. While PPD does have the legal authority to remove such comments, the department says it does not always have the staff available to do so. The trial period will run through September when it will be reviewed once again.
