Montgomery County Commission to Discuss Mill Levy Increase

The Montgomery County Commission will discuss plans to exceed the Revenue Neutral Rate for 2027.

On the agenda for today's meeting is County Administrator Jonathan Booe. Booe will request the approval of a notice of intent to the County Clerk to exceed the Revenue Neutral Rate for the coming year. According to county documents, the mill levy would increase from the current 39.948 to 46.0 mills. This would increase tax revenue by about $3 million, from $16.8 million to $19.5 million. A date for a public hearing on the increase would be set for August 31st at 9am.

The county had planned a similar increase last year, but, due to a procedural error were forced to remain revenue neutral for 2026. Commissioners then cut an additional $3 million from this year's budget.

The Public Works Department is also on today's agenda to continue last week's proposal to move the center line on West Oak Street in Independence.

Today’s meeting begins at 9am in the Commission Room on the lower level of the Judicial Center in Independence. The public is invited to attend in person or to view the meeting online via the County’s website.
