Summertime is officially here and with the change of seasons comes the opportunity to spend more time enjoying the great outdoors.
The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks reminds Kansans that outdoor conditions can change quickly, especially on trails and in outdoor recreation areas. Before heading out, make sure to check local weather conditions and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions. Carry adequate amounts of water and use sun protection. For those enjoying the state's hiking trails, be prepared for muddy or uneven trail conditions after rain. Swimmers and boaters are also encouraged to have fun safely. U.S. Corps of Engineers Ranger Stephanie Jones says a large part of that safety is using a life jacket.
Good planning with safety in mind will help ensure everyone can enjoy all the outdoor activities Kansas has to offer.
