Independence Man Killed in Weekend Crash

 

An Independence man is dead after a weekend car accident south of Cherryvale.

 

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at the intersection of US-169 and County Road 4800 about one mile south of Cherryvale around 3:30 on Friday afternoon. A 2017 Buick Enclave, driven by Hurshel Miller of Independence, was stopped at the stop sign facing westbound before entering US-169. A 2013 Ford Expedition, driven by Dana Smith of Elmore, Oklahoma, was traveling northbound on US-169 when it struck the Buick as it entered the highway. Both vehicles came to rest in the west ditch along US-169.

 

Hurshel Miller and his passenger, Sharon Miller, were airlifted to an area trauma center with critical injuries. Smith and one of the three juveniles traveling with her were transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

 

Hurshel Miller later succumbed to his injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
