Two Fatal Accidents on Kansas Highways Over Memorial Day Weekend

 

The Kansas Highway Patrol reports two fatal accidents on Kansas highways over the Memorial Day weekend.

 

The first occurred on Friday evening just after 6pm in Osage County. Two vehicles collided on Topeka Avenue just north of the City of Carbondale. One vehicle struck the other as it pulled onto the roadway from a private drive. K-H-P has not released the names of the victims in the crash, stating only that it was a fatal accident.

 

The second fatal accident occurred around 10:30 on Saturday night in Washington County, about 20 miles south of the Nebraska state line or 5 miles west of the City of Linn. 50-year-old Benjamin Goeckel of Linn was on a John Deere lawn mower at the edge of Indian Road when he attempted a left turn and was struck by a Polaris side-by-side. Goeckel suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The driver of the Polaris 37-year-old Jeremy Helms also of Linn along with a minor child received minor injuries in the accident.
