The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issues a boil water advisory for the City of Thayer and the Coal Hollow Water Company in Neosho County.
Officials say the advisory went into effect after a loss of water pressure, which can lead to possible bacterial contamination. Customers are advised to boil water for at least one minute before drinking or food preparation, or use bottled water. Residents should also avoid using ice from automatic icemakers and disinfect dishes using a bleach solution.
Water used for bathing does not typically need to be boiled, but children should be supervised to prevent ingestion. The advisory will remain in place until testing confirms the water system is safe. Only the KDHE can lift the advisory.
