Memorial Day Weekend Travel Means Planning Ahead

Millions of Americans will be hitting the road this weekend to celebrate Memorial Day.

The recent rise in gas prices are not expected to impact travel plans for the holiday weekend. Triple A estimates that nearly 45 million Americans have plans to travel more than 50 miles from home this weekend. That's a record high number for the Memorial Day holiday. Of those, more than 39 million will be traveling by car. Shawn Steward with Triple-A Kansas says, with so many people expected on the roads, travelers need to remember to be patient and buckle up.

Steward says pre-planning your trip can help reduce the stress of traveling.

Triple-A says the average price for a gallon of gas was $4.11 in Kansas as of Wednesday. The price is $1.40 higher than last year and more than 50% more since February. Prices in Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas have shown similar rates.
