Fire crews from both Labette and Crawford Counties have returned home after fighting fires in southwestern Kansas.
A total of 19 firefighters were dispatched to the Ashland area in Clark County early Sunday morning and spent Sunday and Monday battling wildfires there. The fire near Ashland has been one of the most intense blazes during the recent fires that have impacted Clark, Meade, Harper, Ford and Morton Counties.
The Labette and Crawford County crews put in long hours over their two days in the area, sometimes working up to 16 hour shifts under the demanding conditions. The group included personnel from fire departments from across Labette County, including Neosho Township, Labette #9, and Altamont Fire along with Labette County Emergency Management. The group also sent 6 brush trucks, 2 water tenders, and 2 support trucks to assist in the effort.
The crews returned home on Tuesday.
