Area Fire Crews Send Equipment, Personnel to Help with Western Kansas Fires

Fire Departments across southeast Kansas send equipment and personnel to help fire wildfires burning in western Kansas.

Fire crews from Coffeyville and Columbus have joined firefighters from Edwardsville, Bonner Springs and Kansas City, Kansas, to form the Wyandotte County Task Force in fighting fires in Meade County in southwest Kansas.

Elsewhere, firefighters from Labette and Crawford Counties were sent to Bucklin in Ford County to help battles the blazes there.

State Fire Marshal Mark Engholm issued a statement on Sunday morning that all requests for apparatus and personnel have been filled and that progress has been made along the main line of the fire, with no new break outs or wildfires reported. Blackhawk helicopters from the Kansas National Guard worked with other air services to drop water on the fires to assist crews on the ground. Weather conditions in western Kansas remain hazardous with high winds, low humidity and drought conditions.
