The Kansas Department of Transportation and Drive Safe Kansas reports good news for drivers in the Sunflower State.
According to recent crash data from the Kansas Highway Patrol, the number of fatal accidents on Kansas highways continues to fall. As of May 12, 2026, the state has recorded 104 traffic fatalities. That number is a 25% decrease from the same time period last year. This continues the trend from the beginning of 2026 that has seen a substantial drop off in fatal traffic accidents.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reminds drivers to avoid distractions, follow the posted speed limit, always buckle up, and never drive impaired.
