Suspect Arrested in Officer Involved Shooting in Bourbon County

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation identifies the suspect in an officer-involved shooting.

Authorities say 47-year-old George White III, of Pittsburg, was arrested after being released from a hospital. He was taken into custody on a Crawford County warrant that includes charges of aggravated assault, theft of more than one hundred thousand dollars, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement and misdemeanor theft. He was later booked into the Jackson County Detention Center in Missouri.

The incident began late Thursday, May 7th, when deputies responded to a report of a stolen semi-truck traveling north from Pittsburg and driving into oncoming traffic. Deputies pursued the vehicle as it continued the wrong way on Highway 69 into Bourbon County. During the pursuit, two deputies fired their guns, striking the suspect and the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody after losing control near Highway 69 and Indian Road. No officers were injured. The KBI says the investigation remains ongoing.
