One person is dead following a single vehicle accident near Olathe.

 

The crash occurred shortly after noon on Tuesday on I-35 just south of Olathe. A 2015 Subaru Forester driven by 43-year-old Rhiannon Rodriguez of Leavenworth was traveling southbound on the Interstate when it left the roadway to the right and drove into the ditch. The vehicle then struck a tree and a concrete embankment. The SUV then caught fire. Rodriguez died at the scene.

 

A nearby pedestrian attempted to pull Rodriguez from the burning vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The 33-year-old man suffered minor injuries and was taken to KU Medical Center for treatment.
