With Memorial Day travel season approaching, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to buckle up as part of the national Click It or Ticket campaign.
Law enforcement agencies across Kansas and the country will increase patrols from May 17th through June 1st in an effort to encourage seat belt use and reduce serious injuries and fatalities on the roadways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, seat belts help keep drivers and passengers secure inside a vehicle during a crash. Those not wearing a seat belt are at a much higher risk of being ejected, which is an outcome that is often deadly.
Officials also remind motorists to wear seat belts properly, with the shoulder belt across the chest and the lap belt across the hips, and to make sure children are secured in age-appropriate restraints.
