The City of Independence will be conducting a disaster response drill today.
The drill will begin at 12:45 and will last for approximately one hour. During the drill, there may be a reduced traffic flow or the temporary closure of the street in the 200 block of West Myrtle to allow emergency personnel to safely stage and operate. Also expected is simulated smoke and simulated patients in the parking lot area along West Laurel as part of the exercise. Residents are asked to avoid that area during the drill.
This activity is only a training exercise and there is no cause for alarm. The exercise is part of the City’s ongoing commitment, in partnership with Labette Health, to enhance emergency preparedness, evaluate response procedures, and ensure a coordinated approach to various emergency scenarios.
Anyone with questions should contact Assistant City Manager David Cowan at 620-332-2528
