An Independence Police Department drug investigation leads to two arrests and the seizure of drugs and a firearm.

Officers executed a search warrant at a home in the 900 block of East Poplar after developing probable cause that illegal drugs were being distributed from the residence. When officers arrived, the occupants exited the home and were identified as Billie Jean Love and Dominique Derrel Darkis, along with three minor children. During the search, officers recovered about two pounds of marijuana, along with methamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA and various prescription medications not stored in labeled containers. Investigators also seized drug paraphernalia and a firearm.

Darkis faces multiple recommended charges including distribution of hallucinogenic drugs, possession with intent to distribute near a school and criminal use of a weapon. Love faces recommended charges including possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. The case remains under investigation.
