Caney City Council Makes Three Appointments

The Caney City Council made three appointments at this week's meeting. Last night, they filled vacancies of a City Council seat, a Municipal Judge, and a seat on the Planning and Zoning Board.

Jesse Hillyard was named to the City Council seat left open by the departure of Kenith Butts. Hillyard was in attendance at last night's meeting and was sworn in by City Clerk Adam Lanter.

His seat will be open for election later this year. This circumstance led the City of Caney to pass an ordinance amending the qualifications for filling vacant Council positions, according to Lanter.

Later in the meeting, Joslyn Kuziak was appointed as the new Municipal Judge. She was also in attendance and gave an introduction to the Council.

The final appointment was that of Roy Shafer to Caney's Planning and Zoning Board for a two-year term. Shafer replaces David Estes, who resigned, Lanter says.

Lanter went on to introduce Shafer and voice his approval for the appointment.
