Water conservation in Coffeyville is no longer needed after the system has been restored to normal operation.
According to Coffeyville City Manager Ben Brubaker, yesterday morning, a contractor accidentally struck a power line at the water treatment plant, causing a loss of power.
Crews worked throughout the day to get the plant online. After several attempts, power was successfully restored around 4:30 p.m., and crews immediately began pumping water to refill and stabilize the system. Brubaker says at one point, they were within about a foot of experiencing major pressure issues across town.
The city asked residents to conserve water starting around 3:49 p.m., and by 6:06p.m. they were able to ease that request slightly, though conservation was still encouraged.
Brubaker says this situation is a reminder that the water plant infrastructure is aging and in need of updates.
