A 15-year-old Nebraska boy is dead after drowning in the Elk River in southwest Missouri, about 10 miles east of Grove.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the boy jumped from a muddy bank on the edge of the river around 4:30 on Sunday afternoon. The victim was attempting to swim across the river but became distressed, went under and did not resurface. The boy was recovered from the water and pronounced deceased at the scene by the McDonald County Deputy Coroner.
The victim's name has not been released.
