The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is identifying the suspect in an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday evening in Ottawa.
The suspect is identified as 33-year-old Zachary Pule of Coffeyville. Pule was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident occured Friday evening when the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Ottawa Police Department attempted to serve a warrant on a homicide suspect out of Kansas City, Missouri at a multi-unit residence in the 500 block of South Locust Street in Ottawa.
During the initial approach, the suspect fired from within the residence, striking an Ottawa police officer. The officer sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported by ambulance to a Kansas City area hospital, where he is being treated and is expected to recover.
Later in the evening, officers entered the apartment and located the suspect deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No shots were fired by law enforcement during the course of the incident.
The KBI says no further information will be released at this time. The investigation remains ongoing.
