Independence to Hold Open House at New Public Works Facility

The City of Independence will hold an Open House at the new Public Works Facility next week.

The event will include facility tours and light refreshments, plus comments from City leaders and a ribbon cutting ceremony led by the Independence Chamber of Commerce.

The former FedEx building in the Independence Industrial Park was authorized for purchase by the Independence City Commission in July 2025. Renovations have been completed on the 23,000-square-foot facility to accommodate the consolidation and relocation of the City of Independence’s public works services from multiple locations around town.

The new facility houses three departments: Water Distribution/Sewer Collection, Street, and Sanitation. City officials say those departments have experienced marked improvements in operational efficiency and also overall employee morale since relocating to the new building. The open house will be held next Thursday, May 7,from 3 to 6pm at the Public Works building at 2143 Enterprise Drive.
