Blue Cross and Blue Shield of KS Awards Three Grants in Montgomery County

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas awards almost $100,000 in grants for projects in Montgomery County.

Yesterday, representatives from the company presented a $50,000 check to the City of Coffeyville to expand the Union Pacific Park across the street from the post office. The grant, along with matching funds from Coffeyville's Reawakening, will double the park's size and transform the space with added green areas, lighting, shade, tables and seating.

In addition, USD 445's Farm to School Program received $25,000 to update the greenhouse at the high school campus. Child Nutrition Services Director Casey Worden says this will allow them to grow more types of vegetables and will also play a role in agricultural education.

The Caney Valley Agape Network and Food Pantry also received a $20,000 grant for an accessible community garden.

Pathways to a Healthy Kansas is the largest community grant initiative ever funded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, with the goal of improving active living, healthy eating, behavioral health and commercial tobacco prevention.
