An early afternoon hail storm in southwest Missouri kills an animal at the Springfield Zoo.

A severe thunderstorm moved through the area Tuesday around noon and hit the Dickerson Park Zoo in Springfield. The storm included rain and hail and caused significant damage to the zoo. The storm also caused the death of an emu and injured another animal as well. No zoo staff ro guests were injured.

The Zoo remained closed on Wednesday but is expected to reopen with normal hours on Thursday.
