The Caney Valley Historical Society is raising funds to help pay for new signage along US-75 to honor a local historical figure.
On April 9th, Kansas Governor Laura Kelly signed House Bill 2615 into law. Part of that bill allows for the designation of a portion of US-75 from the 4-way stop north of Caney, south to the state line as the Brigadier General George H. Wark Memorial Highway. Wark was a member of the Kansas National Guard who served during World War I. He also served as a state senator and practiced law in Caney. The National Guard armory in Coffeyville is named for Wark.
The Caney Valley Historical Society is trying to raise $15,000 to purchase highway signs to place along the US-75 on each end of Caney.
