The City of Columbus issues an update regarding storm damage from Sunday night's severe weather.
According to the Columbus Fire Department, the City of Columbus experienced only minimal damage during the severe thunderstorms that produced several tornadoes in southeast Kansas. However, the City of Columbus sustained no major structural damage, residential loss, or injuries within the city limits.
Western Cherokee County did experience some damage including downed trees and power lines, with some damage to small buildings and to a few larger structures. No homes were destroyed and no injuries associated with major damage were reported. The City of Columbus has no plans to request additional resources or emergency assistance.
