Indy Residents Pitch In for Love Independence

Residents of Independence pitch in to help out on Love Independence Day.

That was the sound of members of the Independence Optimist Club handing out stickers to students at Eisenhower Elementary last week. All last week, civic organizations and residents alike worked together to help clean up the City. Independence Chamber President Lisa Wilson says, cleaning up isn’t all the celebration is about.

Groups such as Boy Scout Troop 16 and Cub Scout Pack 3136 helped with clean up projects around the City. Athletes from ICC pitched in and help paint the tennis court bleachers at Riverside Park, while the Kay Club from Independence High School repainted picnic tables in the IHS courtyard. Fifth grade classes from Jefferson School helped with clean up at the Park as well.

Participants in Love Independence are encouraged to look for ways to brighten someone’s day and give back in meaningful ways, all while celebrating the spirit of Independence.
