The City of Neodesha will begin a chlorine burn on the City’s water system starting a week from today.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment recommends that public water systems periodically perform a cleaning of the distribution system using free chlorine. Over time, the distribution system including pipes and storage tanks can develop issues such as biofilm and nitrification along with taste and odor issues. A chlorine burn kills off any existing bacteria and resets the system chemically. This is a routine and important step to maintain water quality.
Neodesha will begin this system cleaning next Monday and the process will take three to four weeks to complete. During that time, customers may notice a slight chlorine taste or odor and they may experience temporary pressure changes or minor discoloration. There is no cause for concern.
