Montgomery County Commission to Discuss Annexation of Land By City of Independence

The Montgomery County Commission will hear details at today’s meeting on the planned annexation of the former soccer fields on Peter Pan Road by the City of Independence.

The area is just over 20 acres of land and was acquired by the City as part of a recent agreement with USD 446 regarding the district’s use of the Central Park Sports Complex. In a letter to the County, Independence City  Manager Kelly Passauer explained that the City would like to rezone the land to Light Industrial use and make it part of the West Laurel Industrial Park. She says the City’s intent is to preserve this property for future economic development opportunities that create jobs within Montgomery County and support long-term business and industrial growth. The Independence City Commission will vote on a resolution for the annexation at its May 14th meeting and, if approved, submit a request for the Montgomery County Commission to approve the proposal.

In other business, commissioners will also hear quarterly reports from the I-T Department and from Environmental Health & Zoning.

Today’s meeting begins at 9am in the Commission Room on the lower level of the Judicial Center in Independence. The public is invited to attend in person or to view the meeting online via the County’s website.
