Vehicle of Wrong-Turn Driver Recovered from Kansas River

It can be easy for a driver to take a wrong turn, even in this age of GPS, Google Maps, and navigation apps.

But things can take a turn for the worse when a wrong turn leads to driving into a large body of water. That's what happened to one driver in Lawrence on Wednesday evening. The navigation error resulted in the driver heading directly into the Kansas River. No one was injured in the incident and the driver was able to make it safely to shore. However, the vehicle remained in the water for nearly twenty-four hours until the Douglas County Underwater Search and Recovery Team was able to locate the car and retrieve it from the water.

The dive team includes officers from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Operations and Corrections Division as well as officers from the Lawrence and Eudora Police Departments.
