A Yates Center man is dead following a single-vehicle accident on US-54.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 58-year-old Kelly Shaffer was traveling on US-54 about 4 miles west of Yates Center just after 9pm Thursday night. Shaffer apparently lost control of his 2003 Chevy Silverado, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. The driver then overcorrected, and crossed the highway to the opposite side, where the pickup struck a ditch and overturned.

Shaffer was pronounced deceased at the scene.
