US-160 Closed Between Moline and Independence Through Next Week

A 38-mile section of US-160 between Moline and Independence will be closed to traffic for the next week to allow for the repair of a box culvert bridge damaged in a recent grass fire.

The Kansas Department of Transportation announced the closure yesterday (Wednesday). The box culvert extends under U.S. 160 and is located a mile east of K-99. Part of the culvert is made from wood, which was damaged in a recent grass fire and needs repaired. U.S. 160 will be closed from K-99 in Elk County east to the U.S. 75 junction in Montgomery County during the repair. No official detour is in place.

KDOT urges motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. For current road conditions, visit kandrive.gov or call 511. For a link for updates on construction projects in southeast Kansas, follow this link.
