County Zoning Discussion Begins Again in Montgomery County

The possibility of county-wide zoning resurfaces in Montgomery County.

At this week's commission meeting, County Administrator Jonathan Booe raised the issue when discussing a draft version of the County Strategic Plan and Zoning Regulations. Booe says the major reason the County is considering the issue is to help prevent unwanted industries from building on agricultural land.

He says it would also be more expensive for the county to only focus on commercial and industrial zoning.

The County's three commissioners – Phil Clubine, Mike Cordray, and Robert Bever (click for contact information) – want to hear from the residents of Montgomery County to understand what people think on the issue. Bever says this is just the beginning of the discussion.

County Director of Environmental and Zoning Matt Debo reinforced the County's stance on zoning. He says it's a way to protect farmers, ranchers, and others on their own land.

Booe plans to present a final version of the regulations at next week's commission meeting.
