A red flag warning is in place today for parts of southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma.

 

The fire weather watch has been upgraded to a red flag warning for Greenwood, Elk and Chautauqua counties and areas to the west, plus Osage, Washington, Nowata, Craig and Ottawa counties and areas to the south and west. A combination of well above-normal temperatures, low relative humidity and breezy winds will result in extreme fire danger this afternoon and tonight. The red flag warning be in effect until after sunset tonight.

 

In addition, the arrival of a cold front later tonight will shift winds from the southwest to the north. Any outdoor burning should be avoided today.
